Most Outdoor shops and websites now have at least a couple of different water purifying bottles for sale. With so much choice it can be hard to know exactly which one is best for you and what you are getting for your money.

The Problem is: these bottles aren’t cheap, so you definitely don’t want to make the mistake of choosing the wrong one.

There are a few things that I look for when choosing a purifying bottle, and those things are safety, usability and usefulness. And when it comes to those things, the LifeSaver Liberty bottle is hard to beat.

Features

The LifeSaver Liberty bottle is the only bottle on the market that has a built-in pump. That’s important for a few reasons, but we’ll get to that later. First, let’s talk about safety. The most important thing here is knowing that you’re going to be OK after chugging down a litre of river water.

The bottle removes 99.999% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, and 99.99% of cysts.

What all of that means to you and me is that we can safely replenish our water supply from a range of sources such as rivers and streams.

The bottle has been independently tested to NSF P231 – meaning that the bottle has been rigorously tested to the highest standards and has repeatedly demonstrated its effectiveness in removing bacteria, cysts and viruses.

An important point of difference with the LifeSaver Liberty bottle is the FailSafe technology. Whereas some other bottles will allow you to continue using them long after the filters have stopped being effective, the LifeSaver Liberty bottle will not allow water to pass through once the filter is blocked. This gives you peace of mind that you are still safe to keep using it.

Usefulness and Usability

A lot of thought has gone into making this bottle useful in multiple ways. More so than any other bottle I’ve encountered.

The pump, for example, allows users to not only purify water in the bottle but also fill multiple other bottles or containers at the same time. With a flow rate of 1.2l/min, you’ll be able to replenish your water supply and continue your adventure in no time.

The bottle also comes with a scavenger hose. This allows you to keep drawing water from a river or stream without having to repeatedly bend down and scoop up water into the bottle. The hose is around 5ft long and is really lightweight and easy to pack away in your backpack.

Another great feature is the ability to screw the top of the bottle onto another wide-mouthed bottle – a Nalgene bottle, for example. This makes it really easy to pump purified water straight into the bottle. It’s a really useful touch.

Who is it For?

The LifeSaver Liberty bottle sells for around £125, so for the average hiker or occasional camper, this is probably going to be an expense that you can live without. But for those that want to head out into the wilderness on multi-day hiking or bikepacking trips, this is really a great option.

There are cheaper water-purifying bottles out there. The Life Straw bottle, for example, sells for around £50. But with those bottles, you only get a bottle and the ability to purify a small amount of water at any one time.

The Bottom Line

The LifeSaver Liberty bottle creates an ability to be worry-free when it comes to your water supply, and to some people that fact alone is invaluable.

There are many great features, some thoughtful touches and a fantastic safety rating. If multi-day expeditions are your thing, you’re going to find that this little bottle is worth its weight in gold.
