I’ve owned multiple pairs of Salomon hiking boots and I’ve always been very happy with them, so now that we are heading into the warmer months I thought it was time to test out a shoe rather than a boot. So, for the last few weeks I’ve been testing the Salomon X Ward hiking shoes, and here’s what I think of them so far…

Features of the Salomon X Ward Shoes

The Salomon X Ward hiking shoes are packed with features that make them a great choice for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts in general. The synthetic and mesh materials offer breathability and durability, while the protective toe cap shields my toes from rocks and other hazards on the trail. The Contagrip sole provides excellent traction on all kinds of surfaces, whether I’m hiking on dry dirt or slick rocks. And the low-cut design provides plenty of ankle mobility without sacrificing support. These shoes are obviously well-designed and have everything I need for both microadventures and longer days on the trails.

Performance

I’ve been wearing these hiking shoes on a variety of walks over the last few weeks, from easy trails to more challenging terrain, and I’ve been impressed with their performance.

Most recently, I wore the Salomon X Ward shoes on a 10-mile, lowland hike around Loch Trool in Galloway Forest Park. I was more than impressed with the comfort and grip that the shoes provided.

The Contagrip sole has kept me stable and sure-footed, even on steep inclines and rocky descents. And the shoes offer good support and stability, which has helped me avoid ankle injuries and fatigue. For most day hikes, they are an excellent choice.

Are the Salomon X Wards Shoes Good Value for Money?

The shoes are priced at around £130, which may be a bit steep for some hikers. But in my opinion, these shoes are worth the cost. They’re well-made and durable, and I have no doubt that they’ll last for multiple seasons of hiking. Plus, they come with a 2-year warranty from Salomon, which should give you added peace of mind. If you’re looking for a hiking shoe that can handle a variety of terrains and conditions, these shoes are definitely worth considering.

The Bottom Line

Overall, I’m really happy with these hiking shoes. They’re comfortable, durable, and versatile, and they’ve held up well during my hikes. While they may be a bit pricey for some people, I genuinely think they offer good value for the price. If you’re looking for a reliable and high-performing hiking shoe, the Salomon X Ward is a great choice.
